PREP ROUNDUP: Marquez, Barnhart pace Timberlake to team title at home invite

SPIRIT LAKE — Timberlake senior Alex Marquez posted wins in the 100- and 200-meter dash, junior Jacob Barnhart won the 1,600 and 3,200 to help lead the host Tigers to the boys team title at the Timberlake Invitational on Friday afternoon.

Timberlake finished with 173 points, with Sandpoint second with 138 and Bonners Ferry third with 66.5.

Sandpoint senior Anna Reinink won the 100 and 200, leading the Bulldog girls to the team title with 163.25 points.

BONNERS FERRY — Trey Bateman had a walk-off single to score Josh Pinkerton as the Badgers took the opening game of a nonleague sweep against the Wildcats.

Trey Bateman finished with three hits and five RBIs, including a solo home run in the third inning for Bonners Ferry. Porter Schulte hit a bases-clearing double in the fifth for the Badgers in the first game.

Reid Whatcott and Kolby Luna each had two RBIs in the first game for Kellogg, which rallied with five runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 10-10.

In the nightcap, Blake Rice and Trey Bateman had two hits and a run scored each for Bonners Ferry (15-6), which hosts Timberlake in a single game on Monday.

Austin Clapper had two hits in the nightcap for Kellogg (8-11), which hosts Orofino in a single game on Tuesday at Morehouse Field in Osburn.
