Vonnie Hubbell, 84
Vonnie Zoe Hubbell, 84, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, passed away Sunday, April 23, 2023, surrounded by family.
She was born Jan. 12, 1939, to Harley and Annie King of Port Hill, Idaho. She was raised with her six sisters in a log cabin near the Canadian border. They would spend hours playing outside, either down by the creek or building make-believe houses and inviting their mom for mud pies and tea. She attended a country schoolhouse that had a huge oil barrel for wood heat and then attended high school in Bonners Ferry.
She was a housewife and mother who loved, above all else, her family. Every now and again she would surprise you, like taking a job packing sticks of dynamite! She enjoyed cups of coffee and Scrabble, shopping around town, yard sales and going to breakfast.
Most days you would find her gardening and working in the yard, except Sundays. Sundays were reserved for church and having the whole family over for a pot of her mostly from-scratch spaghetti. Quite often sending the grandkids home after consuming multiple spoonfuls of Jet-Puffed Marshmallow Crème straight from the jar, (even though it was purchased to make peanut butter fudge for grandpa).
Later in life, she embraced her independence and joined a 55+ Group where she had some of her most fun and happy times.
Vonnie is loved and remembered by her four children, Vicki White, Harley (Michelle) Hubbell, Diana Waddell and Kim Hutchings; grandchildren Colette, Crystal, Tommy, Angie, Candyce, Chelsea, Sara, Jesse, Amanda, Jennifer, Chris, Pat and Kayla and many great-grandchildren; her beloved sisters, Jeanette King, Naomi Lund, Bobbie (Ralph) McDonald and Sonja (Manuel) Estela.
Those she is joining in heaven include her mom and dad; sisters Ariel Burley and Anita Ellis; and her husband and love of her life, Clifford Hubbell.
Services will be held at English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, on Monday, May 1, 2023, at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice House of North Idaho, an organization that supported Vonnie and her family throughout her final months. https://www.hospiceofnorthidaho.org/donate/.
