PREP SOFTBALL: Hill shines as Lake City goes yard seven times

POST FALLS — Taylor Hill homered twice and drove in seven runs in the opener, and the first-place Lake City Timberwolves hit seven home runs en route to sweeping the host Post Falls Trojans 15-4 and 11-1 in Inland Empire League softball Tuesday.

Hill went 4 for 5 in the opener with a solo homer in the first inning for Lake City (13-3, 10-2 IEL), a two-run double in the sixth and a three-run blast in the seventh.

Hope Bodak hit a two-run homer in the first inning, and Brooklyn Wullenwaber added a solo shot in the fourth.

Layla Gugino went 5 for 8 with six RBIs and six runs scored for the Timberwolves. She struck out four and scattered seven hits in winning the opener. She hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning of the second game and a two-run single in the fifth.

Bodak hit a three-run homer in the third to open the scoring, and Karsyn DeMent hit a two-run shot later in the fourth to make it 8-0.

Kaydence Constable had five hits on the day for Lake City, KaeLee Kolden four.

“We are happy to pick up the two wins today,” Lake City coach Jordyn Hensley said. “It was nice to see everyone contribute. It was fun to watch.”

Jaelei Davis drove in a pair of runs in the first game for Post Falls (6-10, 6-8).

Post Falls plays host to Timberlake on Thursday in a nonleague doubleheader.

Lake City travels to Lakeland on Saturday for an IEL twinbill.

RATHDRUM — The Hawks were swept by the visiting Bengals in Inland Empire League play.

Mia Kesner hit a two-run double in the seventh inning of the second game for Lakeland (4-11, 2-8 IEL).

Mayonna Miller hit a grand slam in the seventh inning of the opener for Lewiston (10-8, 9-3), which moved ahead of idle Coeur d’Alene (10-4, 7-3) into second place in the IEL, one game behind Lake City.

Lakeland travels to St. Maries on Thursday.

Lewiston plays at Coeur d’Alene on Saturday in an IEL doubleheader.
