EARTH: Deserves our attention and care

| April 26, 2023 1:00 AM

My name is Elsie Lochelt. I am a sixth grader at Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy. I used to live out in the woods and have had numerous opportunities to explore and appreciate nature to its fullest. I see nature’s beauty and fully believe that nature should be protected, which means that we need to focus a lot more on preserving and protecting nature.

It is truly heartbreaking that when my family drives down a highway, it is littered with trash to the point where I cannot see the scenery. People do things that harm the environment all the time without realizing that it can hurt them, us, and the whole entire world.

People should accept that if we want a better world like everyone keeps talking about, maybe we should focus less on just the humans and more on Earth as a whole. We cannot hope to create a safe and healthy world without helping other species as much as our own. Animals can get caught in the trash that we dump out of our cars, and in extreme cases, that can lead to extinction. The next time you go out on a walk, maybe consider picking up some trash, or even if none of us litter, then the world will be a lot cleaner and a better place to live in. If we each contribute something to the environment, we will see noticeable changes extremely quickly.
