CONTAMINATION: Lead cleanup not complete
In the Silver Valley, we continue to fight for environmental cleanup that is not complete.
Shutting down of the toxic waste site at the Mission of the Sacred Heart, Cataldo, acquiring funds for a Community Lead Health Center continue to be worked on with little notice by governmental agencies. Both are supported by overwhelming documentation by thousands who live in the Bunker Hill Superfund site.
Children growing up here are exposed to lead daily, that includes toxic waste from mine tailings put in repositories in our valley on the shores of riverbanks. Toxic dumps fill up from spring flooding. Each year contamination travels downstream to rivers, lakes and streams.
No one wanted them here, they are because EPA said, “it was convenient.” Permanent waste technology laws of Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation Liability Act are being ignored.
No justification exists for removal of lead contaminated soils, in “bringing children’s lead levels down.”
The EPA’s mission, to “protect human health and environment” has failed to clean up lead inside homes and businesses. There really isn’t any reason why, agencies just are not doing it.
Happy Earth Day, everyday!
