Companions Animal Center grand opening Sunday
HAYDEN — The grand opening of Companions Animal Center, 10275 N. Atlas Road, is scheduled noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.
There will a chance to check out the facility, music and food and drink for purchase. Visitors can also consider adopting a pet.
"It is our hope the new facility has created a welcoming environment for potential adopters to meet the animals," said Vicky Nelson, director of development. "It also has opened up many opportunities for CAC and the community to utilize the center for educational purposes and events."
Companions Animal Center, formerly the Kootenai Humane Society, recently opened its doors to the public.
The 22,000-square-foot building has large kennels for dogs and cats, a bright and welcoming lobby, offices and rooms for storage, laundry and medical supplies. It also has outside areas for pets and a walking path.
Companions Animal Center has raised $6.1 million for the $8 million project on Atlas Road.
A groundbreaking was held in November 2021. Young Construction Group of Idaho, Inc., was the project’s general contractor.
The decades-old shelter on county property at the north end of Ramsey Road is expected to become part of the Coeur d'Alene Airport.
So far this year, the shelter has adopted 353 pets.
"Our community can now be proud of their animal center and show the outstanding care and compassion each animal receives as they wait for their forever home," Nelson said.
