United States of 'Frozen'
The Coeur d'Alene High School Theatre Department has won the exclusive rights to be the first Idaho high school theater program to present Disney's "Frozen: The Broadway Musical."
Nearly 300 high schools across the country participated in the United States of "Frozen:" Love is an Open Door contest, sponsored by the Educational Theatre Association, Disney Theatrical Group and Music Theatre International. Only one high school per state and territory was granted exclusive rights to the show after participating in a competitive online application process. Winners were chosen based on their unique artistic vision of "Frozen" and demonstrated commitment to outreach in their schools and local communities.
Coeur d'Alene High is one of just 52 schools to earn this privilege.
"This production has been a complete joy to bring together," Coeur d'Alene High School Theatre Director Jared Helm said. "We have centered the entire musical with the objective to embrace our differences. 'Frozen' is a show about the power of love and its ability to bring us together."
"Frozen" follows the story of two sisters, Elsa and Anna, who live happy lives in Arendelle. A magical mishap separates the sisters, setting off a story of unconditional love that unfolds through the actions and decisions of charming characters, with an abundance of memorable music.
“Disney Theatrical Group is delighted that the story of 'Frozen' is being told on stage by high school students across the country," states the news release announcing Coeur d'Alene High as one of the winners. "'Frozen’s' message of love and acceptance will be celebrated through the diverse array of talented young people bringing the beloved characters of Arendelle to life while supporting their peers and community.”
The full-length version of "Frozen" is not available for wider licensing at this time, making the United States of "Frozen" a momentous celebration of the timeless story.
The Coeur d'Alene High School Theatre Department debuted "Frozen" Thursday evening. The show plays again at 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, April 29.
Tickets range from $12-$15.
"We are proud to be the debut performance of this beautiful musical in the state of Idaho," Helm said. "We hope to see you at the show."
