Summit Christian Academy expanding to add middle school
Summit Christian Academy is opening a middle school this fall to offer parents another option in the area’s expanding education landscape.
The preschool-through-fifth-grade private school in Coeur d’Alene is enrolling for sixth grade for the 2022-23 school year. Grades will be added each year through the eighth grade.
Summit currently has 146 students. With the expansion, it will add 20 students in sixth grade next school year.
“Private Christian education has seen unprecedented growth in the last few years,” Summit Principal Mindy Thom said in a news release. “In the Coeur d’Alene area, waitlists are full of eager families desiring to build their children’s foundation on Christ. In launching our middle school, we are answering God’s call to fill this need in our community.”
Summit opened as Lutheran Academy of the Master (LAM) in 1996. Known for a rigorous academic program and emphasis on fine arts, the school ranks among the top private schools in Coeur d’Alene, according to the Private School Review, a website that offers profiles, news and information about private schools.
Biblical teaching, leadership training, music, drama, art and speech are cornerstones at Summit. The school features a well-known theater and public speaking program led by a longtime local actor and director, a visual art program led by a local artist, small class sizes and seasoned faculty.
Summit’s middle school will offer sports and electives. Students will learn problem solving and critical thinking skills.
