It's time for a community garden party
COEUR d'ALENE — Shared Harvest Community Garden's opening day celebration and work party is set for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
Volunteers are welcome to dig, rake, weed and mow at 10th and Foster Avenue, rain or shine. Tools will be provided as the nonprofit prepares for another season of growing and sharing.
There will be live music, coffee and water, and people are encouraged to bring snacks to share.
Nonperishable foods will also be collected.
Shared Harvest was founded in 2008. It offers 20 garden plots to individuals interested in gardening, who donate 50% of their harvests to a food bank.
There is also a "Donation Garden” section, where 100% of the fresh organic produce is donated.
The grounds also have picnic tables, benches, a performance stage and walking paths.
