NIC GOLF: McCartain, NIC men, women win at CBC tourney

KENNEWICK, Wash. — Freshman Josh McCartain of North Idaho College earned medalist honors for the me, and the Cardinal men’s and women’s golf teams captured team titles Monday at a Northwest Athletic Conference league tournament hosted by Columbia Basin College at Canyon Lakes Golf Course.
McCartain shot 71-73—144, even par, and won by three strokes.
NIC’s men shot 589 and won by 21 shots.
Caden Gambini and Jarett Giles tied for fourth for the Cardinals, Hardy Johnson tied for eighth and Jamen Parsons was 10th.
NIC’s women, led by freshman Laila Jalil, won by 18 shots. Jalin finished second. The Cardinals’ Navy Wood tied for 10th.
NIC men’s and women’s coach Russell Grove described Canyon Lakes as “a course with tricky greens that played fast and firm in some heavy winds.”
NIC’s teams play in another NWAC league tournament this weekend at West Seattle Golf Course, hosted by Bellevue Community College.
