SCHOOL BATHROOMS: Teachable moments

| April 16, 2023 1:00 AM

Try to remember every time a school board closes a bathroom to LGBTQ, our children gain a teachable moment. They’re not as timid as you think.

We’ll get to that… First, I tried “cross dressing” in ’73 for a Cub Scout costume party. Memorable is an understatement. “Mom,” I asked, “can you make me a doll?” She grinned and replied “heck yeah.”

She didn’t think I’d go through with it. I was fearless. My hair was curled, make up caked on. The dress she found was to die for. I met my dad at the door. Not many fathers can say they’ve had to come home to a Flip Wilson Gerildene Jones skit. Off to the ball we went.

Every time I see a transgender person I’m reminded of the tiny bit it took to get over my fear.

Back to the teachable moment.

Aren’t these bans coming from Protestants, Baptists and Evangelicals? Many centuries ago we were all part of one sect. The church told us when to pray, where to eat, what to wear, etc.

Then the progressive printing presses came and people began to literally think for themselves instead of walking to their deaths for disobeying the “most holy.”

The church didn’t like people choosing where they washed their sinful feet, so they went and lost a war that was 10 times costlier than the COVID and Afghanistan combined. Now those who won their religious freedom are finding persecution way too easy. Whoa to them I say.
