McGuffin wins in singles, doubles at pro pickleball event

Tyson McGuffin of Hayden, one of the top-ranked professional pickleball players in the world, captured gold in both men’s doubles and men’s singles events at the Professional Pickleball Association (PPA) Selkirk Red Rock Open, in St. George, Utah, last weekend.

McGuffin and his partner, Brendan Long, were seeded sixth in men’s doubles, and went 5-0 last weekend.

McGuffin was invited to throw out the first pitch at an Arizona Diamondbacks game on Tuesday.

NIC softball sweeps NWAC honors

Kennedy Hobson of North Idaho College was named Northwest Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week, and teammate Emma Todhunter was named Hitter of the Week.

Hobson made two starts for the Cardinals and earned two complete-game shutout wins, both by the run rule. In her first start against Yakima Valley, she struck out five and walked three in an 11-0 win. In her second start against Big Bend, Hobson struck out two with two walks and an 8-0 victory.

Todhunter went 7 for 10 at the plate for the Cardinals in four wins over Yakima Valley and Big Bend. Todhunter had three doubles and a home run, driving in eight runs with five runs scored.
