NIC SOFTBALL: Cardinal freshmen shine in sweep of CCS
SPOKANE — Freshman Hayden Rockwell went 4 for 4 with three RBIs and four runs scored for North Idaho College in a 12-4 win over the Community Colleges of Spokane in the first game, and the Cardinals went on to sweep the Sasquatch in a Northwest Athletic Conference doubleheader Tuesday at Spokane Falls Community College.
Rockwell hit a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning for NIC, which also had a three-RBI day from freshman Summer Makinster.
Haylee Smit, a freshman from Lakeland High, had a two-run single in the bottom of the fourth inning for Spokane.
In the nightcap, Rockwell homered leading off the game, her first of two home runs in the game, and drove in four runs as the Cardinals won 10-2 for the sweep.
Makinster also homered twice for NIC (17-8, 12-4), which has won eight straight games.
Smit had two hits and an RBI in the second game for Spokane (10-10, 7-9).
