Student art exhibition will feature Seurat-inspired Cd'A scenes

| April 7, 2023 1:00 AM

Coeur d'Alene will come alive in the style of artist Georges Seurat, as students in grades one to 12 are invited to participate in an arts exhibition scheduled at the Kroc Center in Coeur d'Alene.

The exhibition is a collaborative effort of the Coeur d'Alene Arts Commission and Aspire Community Theatre.

Students are asked to create a two-dimensional piece of art - up to 12-by-18 inches - illustrating a Coeur d'Alene scene in the style of Georges Seurat's 1886 masterpiece, "A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte."

Student artwork will be exhibited over the final weekend of Aspire's production of the Stephen Sondheim, James Lapine musical "Sunday in the Park with George," a fictional account of Seurat's creation of his famous painting.

Student artists should drop off pieces at the theater box office or Kroc Center main desk by 9 p.m. April 29. On the back of the artwork, include name, email address, school, art teacher and grade.

As a thank you for participating, all artists will be given a code to receive $10 off per ticket for a selection of May 6 and 7 performances of the Aspire production of "Sunday in the Park with George." The musical, which was nominated for 10 Tony awards, including Best Musical, is making its Inland Northwest premiere.

Both the free art exhibit and ticketed production will be held in the Midge and Pepper Smock Family Theatre at the Salvation Army Ray & Joan Kroc Community Center.
