Safe Passage's Hats and Hooves set for May 6
Safe Passage will be off to the races May 6 for a festive Kentucky Derby-themed brunch: Hats and Hooves.
In its second year, Hats and Hooves will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Derby Day at the Hayden Lake Country Club, 2362 E. Bozanta Drive, Hayden Lake.
The brunch will focus on the work done at Safe Passage’s Children's Advocacy Center.
After a "Call to the Post," guests will sip mint juleps and enjoy a gourmet four-course brunch.
Attendees will have opportunities to silently bid on creations by Flowers by Lily Garland.
A survivor impact story will be shared from a mother of young boys who was helped by Safe Passage's services and is on her way to living a healthy, safe life full of hope.
In 2022, the Safe Passage Children's Advocacy Center conducted 228 trauma-informed forensic interviews for children who reported physical and sexual abuse. The center's family advocates provide resources and support to non-offending caregivers and parents.
More children are at risk of abuse now than at any point in Idaho’s history, Safe Passage reported in a news release. In the first two months of 2023, the center already served twice the number of children from 2022.
Hats and Hooves tickets are $100 each. The nonprofit's fundraising goal this year is $16,500.
Safe Passage's mission is to provide safety, education and empowerment to victims of violence and to the community. Established in 1977, it is the largest victim services agency in North Idaho. Each year, it provides confidential direct services to over 1,600 survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking and child victimization throughout the state.
