COEUR d’ALENE — Senior Peyton Lozier hit a pair of two-run homers, including a tiebreaking blast in the top of the ninth inning, as the Post Falls Trojans beat the host Lake City Timberwolves 7-5 in the first game of an Inland Empire League doubleheader Tuesday.

In the second game, Layla Gugino scattered four hits and KaeLee Kolden drove in two runs as Lake City (4-2, 1-1 IEL) won 4-1 to earn the split.

In the first game, Lozier also hit a two-run shot in the fifth inning to tie the game at 3. She finished the first game 4 for 5 with five RBIs.

"Peyton's two home runs really made the difference," Post Falls coach Katy Sinn said.

Lake City took a 4-3 lead when Kaydence Constable singled in Taylor Hill in the sixth. Eden Nye singled with one out in the seventh inning, and scored on a two-out error to force extra innings.

In the first inning of the second game, Kolden doubled in the first and scored on a single by Hope Bodak. Constable’s sacrifice fly scored Bodak.

In the fourth, with the T-Wolves leading 2-1, Kolden doubled to score Kylee Palmer and Karsyn Dement.

Freshman Lexie McCarroll pitched all 14 innings for Post Falls, finishing with 10 strikeouts.

"Lexie has shown some true grit and determination on the mound, hitting her spots to force outs when we need them," Sinn said. "She's a trooper and we've got a good outlook for her."

Coeur d’Alene 10-8

Post Falls 0-5

COEUR d’ALENE — Sometimes, it’s just best to just step away for a few days and come back fresh.

On Tuesday, Coeur d’Alene senior Bryce Stockton did just that.

Stockton struck out 10, then hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning to kickstart the Viking offense in the first game of a Inland Empire League sweep over the Trojans at Ted Page Field.

“It was as efficient as he’s ever been,” Coeur d’Alene coach Erik Karns said. “It was probably the best start of his high school career, then he came up in the fourth and broke the game open with the home run. (Post Falls pitcher Jayden) Butler was pitching really well, and that kind of opened things up for us.”

Coeur d’Alene went 0-4 in its recent trip to the Rocky Mountain Tournament before spring break last week.

“We had a great, focused practice yesterday (Monday) and shook some of that stuff off from the Boise trip,” Karns said. “We fixed a lot of that stuff and played really well.”

“Coeur d’Alene showed up to play and we didn’t,” Post Falls coach Kurt Reese said. “Bryce pitched really well and was dominating. We just had a lot of mental and physical errors and just did not show up today.”

Senior Bryce Hall had three RBIs and two runs scored for Coeur d’Alene in the opener.

Andrew Karns and Jesse Brown scored two runs each in the nightcap as the Vikings earned the sweep after the game was called after five innings due to darkness.

Coeur d’Alene (4-6, 4-0 IEL) hosts Lakeland in a doubleheader on Friday.

Post Falls (4-5, 3-2) travels to Lewiston for a twinbill on Saturday.
