NIC SOFTBALL: Cardinals sweep away Yakima Valley

COEUR d’ALENE — North Idaho College freshman pitcher Kennedy Hobson struck out five in a complete game shutout in the open, then sophomore Abbey Brooks fanned six in the nightcap as the Cardinals swept the Yakima Valley Yaks 11-0 and 9-1 in a Northwest Athletic Conference doubleheader at Memorial Field on Tuesday.

Freshmen Hayden Rockwell and Kani Korok drove in three runs each in the first game for NIC. Rockwell also scored three runs.

In the second game, sophomore Emma Todhunter had three hits and two RBIs, helping the Cardinals improve to 4-0 at home.

NIC (13-8, 8-4 NWAC) will host Big Bend in a doubleheader on Thursday starting at 2 p.m.

The games were previously scheduled for Friday, but were moved up due to projected inclement weather in the area.

Yakima Valley is 6-12, 5-9.
