Police want surveillance camera list
COEUR d'ALENE - The Coeur d'Alene Police Department is working to compile a list of people and businesses who have surveillance cameras.
"This will allow detectives to contact anyone who may potentially have surveillance of crimes faster and possibly prevent further crime," according to a press release.
Detectives often use surveillance footage to help solve crimes, from homicide to thefts, and the quicker video surveillance footage is obtained, the quicker suspects can be located and arrested, police said.
Video surveillance footage is also used for successful prosecution of offenders.
The information the police department is collecting does not give anyone access to surveillance footage. It provides detectives with names and addresses of people to contact in the event a crime occurs near their home or business.
