Fatal I-90 crash under investigation

The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal crash that occurred late Saturday afternoon on Interstate 90 in Post Falls.

The crash took place as Idaho State Police were in pursuit of a stolen vehicle and possible theft suspect, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office.

“During the pursuit, which was headed west on Interstate 90, the stolen vehicle left the roadway before coming to rest on the property of Knudtsen Chevrolet,” the release said. “As a result of the collision, one occupant sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Another occupant was transported to Kootenai Health with major injuries.”

Coeur d’Alene Police Department and Idaho State Police are assisting the Sheriff’s Office with the investigation.

Investigators remain on scene and I-90 remains open; however, traffic delays are expected for several hours.
