PREP VOLLEYBALL: Post Falls hands Lake City first loss

POST FALLS — Kylie Munday had 12 kills, 15 assists, eight digs and three aces as the Post Falls Trojans handed the Lake City Timberwolves their first loss, 25-14, 25-23, 26-24 in Inland Empire League play Tuesday night at The Arena.

Maleah Wilhelm added five kills and seven blocks for Post Falls (14-1, 4-1 IEL), which moved into a tie for first with Lake City. Kaelyn Nagel had 11 assists and four aces, Vanessa Kison nine digs, Maddie Brazee four aces.

“We really stayed aggressive tonight, and made adjustments when we needed to,” Post Falls coach Willow Hanna said. “Our blocking was really effective. We are so appreciative of our fans.”

For Lake City (8-1, 4-1), Payton Peugh had seven kills, Allie Bowman eight digs, Ella Hosfeld 12 assists and three kills, Aubrey Stennett two aces.

“We just started off playing really scared, and couldn’t get anything going,” Lake City coach Michelle Kleinberg said. “Honestly, we would have lost to anyone tonight. They just came out confident, and we did not.”

Lake City plays host to Coeur d’Alene tonight at 7.

Post Falls travels to Mead on Thursday.

Moscow

RATHDRUM — Sophomore Ziya Munyer had 16 kills, five blocks and two aces as the host Hawks knocked off the Bears 27-25, 25-21, 24-26, 25-18 in IEL play at Hawk Court.

Olivia Zazuetta had 29 assists, Ellie Carlson and Addy Hocking 23 digs each for Lakeland (14-6, 3-1 IEL), in the teams’ first meeting since Moscow beat Lakeland in last year’s 4A Region 1 championship match in Rathdrum for a berth to state.

Kenna Simon had 15 kills, Emily Morlan 19 digs for Lakeland.

“Ziya had an overall great game,” Hawks coach Kelsie Badger said. “A lot of us are overcoming sickness and injuries, so this win was a battle. Our back row played really well and was scrappy. Our middles brought it home for us, nearly putting away every ball they were set.”

Moscow is 3-7, 2-3.

Lakeland travels to Sandpoint on Thursday.

Timberlake

SPIRIT LAKE — Lily Daniels had 22 assists and Berkli McGreal had eight digs as the visiting Lumberjacks swept the Tigers 25-16, 25-13, 28-26 in nonleague play.

Stacie Mitchell had five kills, Tayla Janssen, Ava Stancil and Taci Watkins four kills each for St. Maries (7-3). Watkins also had two blocks, Abbie Wilks three aces.

“Thankful for the win on the road in what has already been a long week, even though it’s only Tuesday,” St. Maries coach Rachele Fischer said. “Homecoming week every year seems to impact us both physically and mentally. I am proud of the girls for digging deep and coming back in game 3 (after being down 7-0). We did miss some crucial serves at the end of the game also, but were able to overcome and get the job done.”

For Timberlake (1-9), Maci Sandbank had seven kills and five digs, Jozee MacArthur 14 assists, Izzy Torr five digs, Jordan Franssen and Peyton Coleman two blocks each.

Timberlake plays host to Kellogg tonight at 7.

St. Maries is home vs. Orofino on Thursday.

Clark Fork

POST FALLS — Sophomore Madi Cooper had 16 kills and four aces as the host Jaguars beat the Wampus Cats 25-15 25-13 22-25 25-16 in a nonleague match at The Courts at Real Life.

Kennedy Prendergast added 31 assists, three aces, five digs and two blocks for Post Falls (4-2). Bella Anderson had nine aces, six kills and nine digs, Camryn Nichols five kills, four blocks and two aces, Katie Plummer 19 digs and four aces, Shayla Hill nine digs, Laya Daniels six blocks and three kills.

It was Genesis Prep’s first win over Clark Fork under Jaguars’ coach Paula Thurston, in her fifth season.

“The girls played amazing,” Thurston said. “They really started strong and played at a fast pace. Our serving was on point tonight and our defense kept our servers behind the line. This was the first time we've beat them since I started coaching, so it was extra sweet tonight. I'm proud of the girls for how they came together and made some great plays at the net. The third set we got tired, but we bounced back to finish it in the fourth.”

Genesis Prep travels to Mullan on Thursday.

Kootenai

PLUMMER — Freshman Kimberly Pluff totaled 12 aces, four kills and 10 digs as the host Knights notched their first victory of the year, beating the Warriors 25-8, 25-13, 25-10 in nonleague play at Ron Miller Court.

Martina Rivera had 10 assists, five kills and three digs for Lakeside (1-4). Arianna Havier-Gorr added 11 digs, four kills and served 100 percent, and Tylah Lambert had seven aces, nine assists and three kills.

“We were hitting the ball the most we have all season and we were hitting well,” first-year Lakeside coach Te’a Kolar said. “I hope we can keep this energy for our next match on Thursday against Clark Fork (at home).”

For Kootenai (0-6), Tuesday Glessner, Keira Bohannon and Callie Smith had five kills each.

"Tonight our girls really shined with their serving, only having three missed serves," Kootenai coach Lacey Bohannon said. "Tuesday Glessner really stepped up her serve game and had some amazing digs. Her hustle was outstanding as she continues to show off her athletic abilities."

Kootenai plays host to Wallace on Thursday.

WALLACE — Savannah Smith had six kills, Britany Phillips five aces as the host Miners defeated the Tigers 25-8, 25-8, 25-18 in nonleague play at Kirby Krulitz Court.

Aubrey Birdsell had eight assists, Kynadee Gilmore seven digs for Wallace (4-3), which travels to Kootenai on Thursday.
