| September 18, 2022 1:00 AM

Phyllis Eugenia (Main) Schwandt was born on Dec. 31, 1921. She passed away in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, on Aug. 1, 2022. Phyllis grew up in Illinois and married W. Robert Schwandt on July 29, 1944. They lived most of their married life in Decatur, Ill., where they raised their four children: Gary, John, Jim and Mary Grace.

Both Phyllis and Bob were active in First Presbyterian Church in Decatur. She was an amazing baker and for many years baked hundreds of cookies to give to friends at Christmas. She enjoyed knitting and weaving and was a member of the Weavers Guild. After their children were grown, both Phyllis and Bob started running and with Bob as her coach, she was the fastest female in her age group in 5K/10K races all over the U.S. They both ran a full marathon in their 60’s.

In 2006, Phyllis and Bob moved to Spokane Valley, Wash., to be near family and later moved to Coeur d Alene, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Schwandt, in 2019. At 100 ½ years of age, she was the last of her generation, but will be long remembered by her four children and their spouses plus nine grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 23, 2022, at the First Presbyterian Church, 521 Lakeside Ave., Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
