Tarie Zimmerman of Coeur d’Alene announced her candidacy for North Idaho College board of trustees Zone 1.

“I believe that North Idaho College is an integral part of our community, instrumental for development of youth and adults, and a valuable community financial asset,” Zimmerman said, in a press release. “I will bring conservative leadership to the NIC board of trustees, offering calm professionalism to fellow board members as we work toward the success and growth of NIC.”

Described as an active community volunteer and financial advisor, Zimmerman’s passion for giving back, dedication to NIC success and service on other boards of directors led her to run.

Zimmerman supports the community college format, having attended a junior college herself, an experience which she believes facilitated later success in higher education and her professional career.

“Tarie spent many years in aerospace engineering enjoying the challenge, but stepped away for an even greater challenge — raising her four boys,” the release said. “During this time, she was devoted to the children’s educational and extracurricular success, volunteering in schools and the community, managing her son’s hockey teams and owning a small business.”

Her roots in local education reach back to her father’s attendance at the historic Roosevelt School. Today she supports education at all levels.
