Community mobilizing to address issue
The challenges faced by residents of manufactured and mobile home communities have been on the radar for more than a year for members of the Regional Housing and Growth Issues Partnership.
Kiki Miller, a Coeur d’Alene City Council member who has been leading the partnership for around 18 months, said the Kootenai County housing and growth-focused group has had a subcommittee dedicated to manufactured home, resident-owned communities or ROCs.
That subcommittee is now expanding into a larger coalition, Miller said, so they can start taking additional steps to create education and awareness of options for other manufactured home park owners and tenants, so the situation at Oak Crest doesn’t reoccur elsewhere in the county.
The Regional Housing and Growth Issues Partnership formed in early 2021 and brings together a cross-section of community leaders committed to finding affordable housing solutions for Kootenai County.
