Standings are still yet to be determined, as the tournament was shortened due to poor air quality. The ‘14 Thorns played in two teams (Green and Yellow) due to their large team. They played the Spokane Sounders, Eastern Washington Surf and Sandpoint Strikers. Goals were made by Finley Martin, Lyla Maestras, Liv Mickelson, Stella Hartzell, Hatty Lemmon, Harper Andersen, Brielle Buscema, Quinn Baily, Allison Legg, Poppy Moreau, Sophia Moreno, with many saves made by Eloise Carper. The Timbers played Missoula Surf 2011B, Spokane Sounders B2011 South Rave and 90+ Project B11 Hartanov-Valdez. Timbers goals were scored by Lucas Buscema, Charlie McVey, Ryder Quinn, Owen Newby, with assists by Ryder Quinn, Asher Smith, Kashton Pintler and Lucas Buscema. Damon Mysse played goalkeeper and had multiple saves. Courtesy photo The Timbers North FC 09 boys soccer team took first place in the U14 boys Gold Division at the Pend Oreille Cup this past weekend in Sandpoint. The Timbers played two games on Saturday at Travers Park, winning 5-1 vs. Hells Canyon B09 Frasier and 9-0 vs. FC Missoula. In the first game vs. Hells Canyon, Isaac Lowder scored a hat trick with assists from Jacob Melun and Ethan Luna. Taylor Smith also scored a goal with an assist from Ayden Cragun. The final goal was scored by Blake Wise on a PK. In the second game, Timbers goals were scored by Brooks Judd (2), Taylor Smith, Jacob Melun, Luke Fritts (2), Rowan Wyatt, Ethan Luna (2). Assists were contributed by Brooks Judd (2), Isaac Lowder, and Mason Taylor (2). On Sunday, the Timbers beat Flathead SC FVU B2008 Green 11-0 at Travers Park. Goals were scored by Luke Fritts (2), Isaac Lowder (2), Ayden Cragun, Jacob Melun, Blake Wise, Stefan Pawlik, Creighton Lehosit, Miles Hart, Rowan Wyatt. Assists came from Taylor Smith, Mason Taylor (2), Ayden Cragun, Sam Mandel and Rowan Wyatt. Stefan Pawlik was primarily the keeper of the Timbers' goal with a little help from Jacob Melun, Blake Wise, Isaac Lowder, Taylor Smith and Brooks Judd. The championship game was cancelled due to a high AQI level from wildfire smoke. Based on the most points earned throughout the weekend in their age and division, the Timbers 09 boys were declared champions. Photo by KARI HYNES The Thorns North FC 11 Girls Academy soccer team took first place at last weekend's Pend Oreille Cup in Sandpoint in the U12 Gold Bracket. The Thorns defeated the Thorns North FC Sandpoint Strikers 2011G 2-1 on Friday night. Payton Brennan and Brightyn Gatten each scored a goal. Next the girls played FC Spokane G2011 White Orwick next, winning 2-1. The team's goals came from Brightyn Gatten and Presley Moreau. Their final game against Washington East SC WESC G11 Escobar ended with a score of 6-1. Thorns players Brightyn Gatten and Riley Greene each scored a goal. Presley Moreau and Olivia Hynes both had two goals. Riley Greene and Olivia Hynes each had assists. Thorns keepers Constance Ovendale, MacKenzie Dolan and Sophia Harrington held their opponents to only three goals for the tournament.
