Mary Alberta Deaton Snodgrass 'Alberta', 88

| October 29, 2022 1:00 AM

Mary Alberta Deaton Snodgrass (“Alberta”), 88, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, formerly of Indianapolis, Indiana, went to be with her Lord early Sunday morning, Oct. 23, 2022. She was born Oct. 20, 1934, in Runnells, Iowa, the only child of Emerson Deaton Jr. and Ruth Naomi (Schmidt) Deaton. Soon after birth, she moved with her parents to Des Moines, Iowa, where she lived until 1969. From then until 2011, she lived in Indianapolis, where she sold residential real estate on the Westside and was a longtime member of Chapel Rock Christian Church. In 2011, she moved to Coeur d’Alene, where she then spent her last years among the mountains she loved so dearly, in the company of good friends at the Heritage Place Senior Apartments.

Alberta was the beloved mother of Rod Snodgrass Deaton (Julie) and Darren Snodgrass (Deborah), and she was the beloved cousin/“sister” of Juanita Lovlyn (Ron), who cherished having Alberta near her these past years in Coeur d’Alene. Alberta leaves a legacy of six grandchildren: James (Ginny) Snodgrass, Justin Snodgrass, Abigail (Jacob) Shetler, Rebekah (Dalton) Fleming, Elizabeth (Ross) Wilson and Joseph Deaton; along with six great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored and prayed for daily. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her daughter-in-law, Debra Tiemeier Snodgrass.

Alberta was a devoted Christian who loved her Bible studies and that old-time gospel singing. She was an expert seamstress who loved sewing outfits big and small for her family and for herself. In addition, she was a talented florist and interior decorator, and many friends and family enjoyed the fruits of her labor through the years to make their homes tasteful and cozy. In her day, she loved a good round of golf, and she was always reading a book of some kind, never tiring of Eugenia Price’s Saint Simons Island series of novels. She loved cooking desserts, and all her grandchildren will treasure their memories of the annual visits to Grandma’s to make their Christmas gingerbread houses.

Alberta’s family wishes to express their most heartfelt thanks for the care given her in her final days by the staff at Valley Vista Care in St. Maries, Idaho. The family will always appreciate the love and comfort they gave to Alberta during her journey Home. The family will be planning a celebration of her life to take place in Indianapolis near Mother’s Day 2023, to be announced on social media, and all who loved Alberta will be most wholeheartedly invited to share in that time of thanksgiving, laughter, and good food.

Yates Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements. Please visit Alberta’s online memorial and sign her guestbook at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com
