A suspect was stabbed and residents were injured during a home invasion in Post Falls late Sunday night.

Post Falls Police reported Monday afternoon the Post Falls Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call from the 100 block of South Cedar Street just after 11 p.m. Sunday. The caller stated a person broke into their home and a physical altercation ensued.

The suspect was known to the residents of the home.

During the altercation, the suspect was stabbed by one of the residents in the house and the suspect was pushed outside and left the scene.

Post Falls Police responded to the residence and requested medical attention for the residents who sustained injuries during the altercation. Those injuries were non-life threatening.

Additional Post Falls Police officers found the suspect in a nearby vehicle. Once the suspect was detained by officers, they began to treat serious stab wounds on the suspect until Kootenai County Fire and Rescue arrived and took over care of the suspect.

The suspect was transported to Kootenai Health for treatment. The status of the suspect is believed to be stable at this time, police reported.

"No one has been charged as of right now," Capt. Mark Brantl told The Press. "The investigation is still ongoing to look at charges. When and if someone is charged, we will release the names at that time."
