Richard Esser, 81

Richard passed away peacefully on Sept. 26, at the age of 81. Richard was born and raised in Dubuque, Iowa, to Harold and Alice Esser.

Richard graduated from Loras Academy where he was captain of the basketball team and also ran track. After high school, Richard entered the U.S. Air Force serving four years. Dick also played basketball for the Air Force leading the team in scoring for two years.

Upon completion of serving four years in the U.S. armed services, Dick started and raised a family in Tacoma, Wash. Richard had a career for 30 years at United Parcel Service retiring in 1994. Richard enjoyed camping, following various sports (Green Bay Packers and Iowa Hawkeyes), traveling, and enjoying a good Pilsner with his friends. Richard was an Elk’s member for 56 years. Richard is survived by sons Conrad (and wife Gillian) and Ryan (and wife Jodie) both from the Tacoma area. Brother Thomas Esser of Sumner, Wash. Richard is preceded in death by his wife Barbara and daughter Terry.

Funeral services will he held at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 625 E. Haycraft, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, 83815, on Saturday Oct. 22, 2022, at 3 to 3:30 p.m.

A celebration of life will follow at Coeur d’Alene Elks 1170 W. Prairie Ave, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, 83815, from 4 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2022.
