| October 15, 2022 1:00 AM

Ray and Joy Brouse, lifetime residents of Worley/Plummer, Idaho, doing what they loved to do, returned to their home in heaven on Oct. 2, 2022. Their love for their family, friends, and community will be truly missed.

Ray Brouse was born in Spokane, Wash., on Dec. 11, 1955, to Orval and Marie Brouse. He grew up in Plummer, Idaho, where he graduated High School in 1974. He worked farming with father-in-law, Wayne, and other local farmers. He owned his own sanitation business, worked at the Plummer Mill, worked at Cenex in Worley for many years, and was a lifelong mechanic and semi-truck driver throughout his life. He spent more than 20 years driving school buses for the Plummer/Worley district. He retired as a bus mechanic for the Coeur d’Alene Casino resort hotel in 2018. Ray loved to work on cars, either his own or helping someone else out. He would spend endless hours in his shop in Worley doing that. Ray loved to watch his episodes of "Gunsmoke." He also spent nearly every morning in Worley with a group of friends drinking coffee.

Joy Brouse was born in Coulee City, Wash., on Jan. 22, 1959, to Wayne and Dorothy Kessinger. She grew up in Worley, Idaho, where she graduated High School in 1977. She worked as a waitress at the Gateway and Homestead Cafes. Like Ray, she spent more than 20 years driving school buses for the Plummer/Worley district. She also worked as a Rural U.S. Postal carrier for many years. Joy loved to spend time with her family and friends, playing cards, going on cousin trips, watching Gonzaga basketball games. Spending quality time with family and friends brought her so much joy. She truly lived up to her name.

Together, Ray and Joy absolutely loved to go on rides on their Harley Davidson trike, whether it was a group rally with the Lone Wolf Harley Davidson HOG Group, or just a ride together locally. Riding their trike together brought them so much enjoyment. They also loved to spend time with their two sons and their grandkids. Going to family functions or sporting events for their kids or grandkids brought them so much fulfillment.

Ray and Joy are survived by their two sons, Dustin and Kurtis Brouse; their daughters-in-law, Chelsea Brouse and NancyKay Smith; their grandchildren: Keelyn, Taylor, Kambry, and Jaxson Brouse. Ray is also survived by his three sisters, Carolyn Lounsbury, Francis Cunnington, and Darlene Maier. Joy is survived by her sister, Merilee Sneve and mother, Dorothy Kessinger. Ray is preceded in death by his parents, and Joy is preceded by her father.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 24, 2022, at One Place Church, 190 W. Centra Drive, Hayden, Idaho 83835. A reception will follow at 3:30 p.m. at the Hospice of North Idaho Community Building, 2290 W. Prairie Ave., Coeur d’Alene, Idaho 83815. Pastor Pace Hartfield will officiate the life celebration.
