MAINTAIN THE JEWEL: Vote for Broschet, Corkill and Zimmerman for NIC

| October 14, 2022 1:00 AM

Since 1933, North Idaho College has been a pillar of Kootenai County and North Idaho by providing access to higher education for tens of thousands of Idaho residents. NIC graduates contribute significantly to the workforce in North Idaho, most notably to the health care industry.

When NIC first earned accreditation in 1947, the college ensured the community and NIC students that it was meeting the highest standards of educational quality. However, that 75-year period of accreditation in good standing was broken when the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities placed NIC on warning on April 1, 2022. The commission summarized the key issues facing the college as follows: “the Commission concludes that the NIC Board of Trustees’ actions to date do not provide assurance that the Board has or will follow through with the steps agreed to in the May 28, 2021, Board Statement to restore effective governance at North Idaho College.”

A change in the conduct and operations of the Board of Trustees is imperative to maintain NIC’s accreditation.

The faculty and staff, with the support of key administrators, have demonstrated their commitment to NIC by maintaining high standards of instruction and student support. With three appointed members, NIC’s board recently hired a dynamic president with a tremendous vision for growth. All that is needed to maintain the jewel NIC is for Idaho is a Board committed to the College’s mission.

Please vote for Pete Brochette, Brad Corkhill and Tarie Zimmerman.
