Bill Demchuk, 75
Bill Demchuk, 75, passed away at home surrounded by family Sunday, Aug. 28, 2022. He was born Oct. 23, 1946, in Trenton, N.J., to Walter and Helen Demchuk. He graduated from Trenton High School and later moved to California, where he met his best friend and partner for life, Cherie. Bill and Cherie were together for 50 amazing years.
Bill is survived by his wife, Cherie; two children, Ted Demchuk and Tammie Henderson; son-in-law Guy Henderson; his grandchildren: Darrin Demchuk and his wife, Courtney, Brooke Demchuk, McKenna and Brenna Henderson; and his great-grandson, Hudson Demchuk. Bill was preceded in death by his parents.
Bill was known for his love of many things, but what he loved most was his family. The time he spent with his family was something he cherished and held near and dear to his heart. Bill loved watching the Mariners with Cherie, spending Sundays watching football with Tammie, and his long conversations every Sunday with Ted about sports. He also loved the time he had with Darrin when he visited from California, facetiming with Brooke, being McKenna’s champion as she discovered her enjoyment of bowling and her passion for teaching, all the times he spent with his “Bubsy” Brenna, and watching Hudson grow up through “Huddy Buddy.”
Something else that was important to Bill was his time as an educator. Bill began his teaching career in California and, after only three years of teaching, Bill and Cherie made the move to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Once Bill arrived in Coeur d’Alene, he began teaching at Lakeland Jr. High as a substitute teacher, which grew into a permanent teaching position as an eighth grade earth science and math teacher. He also coached Lakeland Jr. High wrestling for 10 years. Although Bill retired from the Lakeland School District, he was not done helping kids. He then taught at North Idaho College for five years. During his time in education, Bill made a huge impact on both the staff and the students he worked with on a daily basis. He had the amazing ability to reach kids at various levels with respect, love and a true passion for their learning. The impact he made on everyone he met will be felt for many years to come.
A memorial service will be held for Bill on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2022, at 1 p.m. at Yates Funeral Home — Coeur d’Alene Chapel, 744 N. Fourth St., Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Please visit Bill’s online memorial and sign his guestbook at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
