VOTE: Broschet, Corkill and Zimmerman will ensure NIC’s accreditation

| October 7, 2022 1:00 AM

A “My Turn Opinion” article (Sept. 29) was written by Tim Plass who introduced himself “as a former candidate for the NIC Zone 5 Trustee position who worked with the KCRCC.” In it, Mr. Plass opines that “the progressives in control have badly hurt NIC by falsely broadcasting that its accreditation is in jeopardy… causing a 10% drop in enrollment this fall.” If opinions are to be respected, I submit that the repeated behaviors of two trustees are the more immediate cause(s) of these undesired effects.

In serious matters such as the fate of NIC, valid opinions are to be determined by valid facts. Having been in education for more than 40 years, I am well aware of the need and the intrinsic value of the accreditation process. Hence, I am most grateful that the focus of “the progressives” is in meeting the recommendations of their accrediting committee rather than criticizing them.

What is now at stake for NIC is not political opinion. Please, before voting for the NIC Trustees, understand the FACTS of the accreditation process. With only one click, Google and visit these facts at: NIC losing accreditation.

What happens if a school loses accreditation? Attending an unaccredited program can mean that you will not be eligible for federal financial aid, you will not be able to transfer credits to another school, and you will not be able to obtain appropriate professional licensure in your field.

Then vote for Zimmerman, Corkill and Broschet to ensure compliance for full accreditation basing the future of NIC on facts not opinions.
