EDITORIAL: October's here! Who ya gonna call?

| October 2, 2022 1:00 AM

While every month offers its ups and downs, we assert today that there is no better month of the entire year than October.

True fact — for everyone who still has the heart of a kid beating somewhere inside.

October is the month when summer’s dying sunset gently grounds us, like autumn leaves floating softly to Earth. It’s the month that ends with the greatest day for every candy-lovin’, mischief-dealin' youngster.

We acknowledge that not everybody gets a thrill out of having the stuffing scared out of ‘em. Haunted houses and creepy corners aren’t for everyone, but on the other hand, who doesn’t appreciate a spooky mystery here and there along the sweet buildup to Oct. 31?

That’s why The Press employs a secret Halloween weapon. Just as April Fuhl has entertained readers the first day of the fourth month annually, The Press also boasts an Oct. 31-endowed reporter who is as fearless — and fun-loving — as they come.

Her name is Devin Weeks, but feel free to call her Intrepid.

Another true fact: When we Googled the term “intrepid definition,” this is exactly what the search produced:

Intrepid: fearless; adventurous (often used for rhetorical or humorous effect). “Our intrepid reporter”

And so it is that our intrepid reporter can hardly wait to share spooky, mysterious and no doubt absolutely factual stories with Press readers over the next four weeks. All Devin needs is a call or email from you to put her on the tale’s trail.

If you know of a local haunted place, have encountered ghoulish phenomena (politics doesn’t count) or harbor other creepy yarns that readers might enjoy, contact Devin pronto: dweeks@cdapress.com or 208-664-8176

In the meantime, order a piping hot pumpkin spice drink, loop Pumpkin Waltz on your computer, and dive into your treasure troves of Halloween decorations. Life’s grim realities can take a break while October pranksters and fun-seekers prepare for the Big Day.
