NIC ROUNDUP: Cardinal volleyball team advances to Elite 8
VOLLEYBALL
COEUR d’ALENE — Taylin Rowley (Coeur d’Alene High) had 12 kills, 18 digs and three aces as the top-seeded North Idaho Cardinals beat Lane Community College of Eugene, Ore., 23-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-23 on Sunday to win the East Bracket and advance to the Elite 8 of the Northwest Athletic Conference volleyball championships.
Abigail Neff (Lakeland) had 45 assists, Jessica Stires 11 kills, Brooklyn Minden (Post Falls) 26 digs for NIC (26-4). The Elite 8 is Friday through Sunday at Pierce College in Lakewood, Wash.
Lane defeated Edmonds 3-1 in the second-place match, to also advance to the Elite 8.

NIC’s Tapia
wins at 149
FOREST GROVE, Ore. — Kanaipono Tapia, a freshman from Halawa, Hawaii, won the 149-pound championship for North Idaho College at the Mike Clock Open at Pacific University.
Brant Porter of NIC was second at 141 for the Cardinals. Kobi Johnson (125) and Porter Craig (157) each placed third, and Ethan Miller (174) and Bradley Whitright (197) both took sixth.
NIC competes at the Spokane Open next Sunday.
