Arlene Scott, 96

| November 12, 2022 1:00 AM

Arlene Scott, 96, from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, passed away peacefully Nov. 6, 2022.

Arlene was born July 25, 1926, in Gales Ferry, Conn., to Morton and Edna Crawford. She grew up on a dairy farm, in Gales Ferry, and met Norman Scott when they were in high school, and they were married April 8, 1945, in Gales Ferry.

Arlene and Norman made their home in Gales Ferry and raised a family, close to the farm where she grew up. Arlene stayed close with her parents and took care of her dad when he was diagnosed with cancer. Arlene was a caregiver and brought people into her home when they were in need. She became a surrogate mom to Arlene Johnson and her brother, William Chiesi, bringing them from the New York City area to spend time in the country. In the mid '60s a Cuban refugee, Tony Talavera, arrived at the local Methodist church without a place to stay. Arlene quickly convinced her husband that they should bring him home and Tony became family. Tony’s dad arrived, from Cuba, sometime later and he lived with the family as well.

Arlene loved to golf, she loved the ocean and boating. She loved gardening and she loved being a mom.

When Arlene’s husband passed in December of 2000, her childhood friend, Minnie, moved in with her. They lived it up and enjoyed being together again until Minnie’s passing. At that time, Arlene decided to move west to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, to be near one of her twin daughters, Carol, and her husband, Clay. Arlene started a whole new exciting chapter of her life, for 15 years she traveled, played golf, joined the Eagles club, where she would dance the night away. She thrived in Coeur d'Alene and said it was the best move she could have made.

Arlene is survived by her son, Alan Scott, and his wife, Colleen, of Brattleboro, Vt., and her twin daughters, Norma Scott of Albuquerque, N.M., and Carol Folda and her husband, Clay, of Coeur d'Alene. In addition, she is survived by her adoptive son, Tony Talavera, and his wife, Cindy, of San Gabriel, Calif., Arlene Johnson and her husband, Dr. Raymond Johnson, of Mystic, Conn., and Arlene’s brother, William Chiesi of Lewes, Del. She is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren from Vermont to Idaho and California.
