Susan Lee Fields Naumann, 78
Susan Lee Fields Naumann, 78, passed away Oct. 22, 2022. She was a devoted wife and mother, a woman who was deeply committed to helping others, a world-class traveler and an interior design enthusiast.
The only child of Hudson and Marcella Fields, Sue was born in Maine on April 19, 1944, but shortly thereafter moved to Oxnard where her father was stationed as a naval officer. Sue attended Curran School, Wilson Junior High, the Academy of St. Catherine’s and graduated from Oxnard High School as a lifetime scholar in 1962. She attended the University of Southern California and became a schoolteacher in Irvine, Calif. Her brilliant and sharp mind guided her interests in many directions, but her proudest accomplishment was being the mother of four children.
One of Sue’s lifelong passions was buying, decorating, and selling homes. While living in Orange County, she reportedly bought and sold 10 homes, and she continued this passion after moving to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Among local real estate brokers, Sue became known as “The Donna,” because she was such an active player in buying and managing rental properties during the boom years of real estate.
Sue was a woman who said yes to life. Her adventurous spirit led her on many journeys across the globe, and her list included Egypt, England, France, Germany, Israel, Italy and Taiwan. She had a rich life full of deep and meaningful friendships. Sue acted as a listener and counselor to many, and in turn many people confided in Sue some of their deepest secrets. She was a champion for the underdog and gave generously of her time and resources to help others.
After returning to her childhood home of Oxnard in 2011, Sue attended a high school reunion planning meeting where she connected with a high school classmate, Frank R. “Roby” Naumann. The romantic connection was immediate and intense, and after a whirlwind romance, the two were married to the delight of all their longtime friends and family. Sue lived out the last 11 years of her life blessed with a loving husband and a partner who joined her in living a fabulously full life.
After their marriage on Roby’s birthday, Aug. 2, 2012, Sue and Roby became a team inspired by Sue’s passion for life. They continued her love of real estate as they bought and decorated four different homes in Oxnard, Camarillo and Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Their travels continued with three visits to New York City, where Sue shared her love of musical theater with Roby. They had front row seats for “Chicago” and enjoyed musicals like “The Phantom of the Opera,” “Motown the Musical,” “Jersey Boys” and “The Carol King Musical.” Roby introduced Sue to the Rolling Stones with concert tickets at Row 7 in Kansas City, as well as his love of baseball with her with a visit to Yankee Stadium. They enjoyed a 15-day tour with the Stephen Ambrose Tour Group where they followed the “Band of Brothers” who fought the Nazis from Utah Beach to Hitler’s Eagle’s Nest. Perhaps their most special trip was their visit to the Samuel Naumann family ancestral hometown in Germany. Their return trip to the US was aboard the Queen Mary 2, where they crossed the Atlantic Ocean as Roby’s ancestors had done in 1886.
Sue is survived by her husband of 10 years, Frank Robert Naumann of Oxnard, Calif.; her four children, Michael Staub and his wife, Susan, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; Craig Staub of Valencia, Calif.; Earle Gilbert (Rick) Wolfrom of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; and Melinda Katherine (Mindy) Wolfrom and her husband, Stan Tsai, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; and her five grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life is planned for family and friends at 1 p.m. Nov. 19 at Las Posas Country Club in Camarillo, Calif. A private funeral service will be held at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park & Funeral Home on Nov. 18.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Oxnard Historic Farm Park.
