Florence June Bloom, 99

| November 9, 2022 1:00 AM

Longtime North Idaho resident Florence June Bloom passed away Nov. 4, 2022, at her home in Coeur d’Alene. She was 99 years old.

“Aunt Flo,” as she was known to her beloved nieces, was born Florence June Waterbury on June 4, 1923, in Bay City, Mich. Her father died when she was 10 years old, and she left high school prior to graduating so she could help support the family. During WWII, she worked at a defense facility to join the war effort.

She married Jerry Bloom in November of 1946. They had two children, David Bloom and Gary Bloom. Flo was a hard worker at whatever she did. She and Jerry were a loving couple, and when Jerry bought a motorcycle, even though Flo hated the bike, she would ride on the back in order to be with him. She was widowed early with Jerry’s passing in 1991.

Flo was known for her wonderful sense of humor. Even at an advanced age, she was good at making caretakers and visitors break out into laughter. She was loving and incredibly kind and made a point to stay in touch with family and friends. She was always generous with her time and her advice when needed.

She and her younger sister Barbara were particularly inseparable. Together, they volunteered at the Kootenai Humane Society. Flo attended the Coeur d’Alene Church of the Nazarene.

At the end of her life, Hospice of North Idaho provided great comfort to her and the family members around her.

She is survived by her son David Bloom and his wife Janice, Henryetta, Ok.; son Gary Bloom and his wife Connie, Horton, Ore.; granddaughter Laura Bloom, Lake Worth, Fla., step-granddaughter Carrie Casita, Eugene, Ore.; and sister Barbara Ferrier, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Jerry and all but one of her siblings.
