Both have preceded him in death along with two of his four brothers, Jim and Danny Blakely. Mick was the oldest of five boys.

Mick is survived by his beloved wife, Naomi Blakely (Mason) and four children along with their spouses: Lynda (Jim) Liesse residing in Palm Harbor, Fla.; Mick (Peggy) Blakely from Dalton Gardens, Idaho; Don (Lorinda) Blakely living in LaGrande, Ore.; and Joyce (Arlan) Anderson from Cottage Grove, Ore. Through the years he and Naomi were a second home to nieces and nephews as well as three younger brothers. His large family included 12 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Mick married Naomi on Nov. 22, 1950. They were young and excited about their future together. However, at the time the Korean War was in progress and Mick joined the U.S. Air Force. Together they lived through four years of military life, of which one year was spent in Korea at the Demilitarization Zone. After returning safely from Korea, he, Naomi and his young family moved from Oregon to Idaho to Washington and back to Idaho. Through all those moves, Mick was employed in the fields of logging, diesel engine repair, electrical linesman, ranch management, ranch and real estate sales.

Mick finally retired in 2014 from ranch management and real estate sales. His favorite saying at that time was, “He had to retire because his eldest son was retired.”

After retirement, Mick spent many happy summers with his family on son Mickey's St. Joe River property camping, boating and eating huckleberry pancakes. His favorite pastime was sharing anecdotes from his life's experiences.
