PREP FOOTBALL: Sandpoint advances to state 4A semis

SANDPOINT — Sandpoint quarterback Parker Pettit accounted for two touchdowns in the first half, running for one score and throwing for another as the Bulldogs rolled past the Shelley Russets 49-14 in a quarterfinal game in the state 4A playoffs at Barlow Stadium at War Memorial Field on Friday.

Sandpoint (6-3), seeded third, will face the winner of today’s game between second seeded Skyline (7-3) and seventh seed Twin Falls (8-2) in the semifinal round. The higher seed will host.

Skyline defeated Sandpoint 20-6 in the 2021 state title game at the Kibbie Dome in Moscow.

Pettit ran for 128 of the team’s 364 yards on the night, helping the Bulldogs advance to the semifinals for the third straight season.

Joe Hughes ran for 64 yards and two touchdowns for Sandpoint, which led 35-7 at halftime.

Shelley, the 11th seed, finished 5-6 after upsetting sixth-seeded Emmett 37-13 last week.

MONTPELIER — The Wildcats scored on a 32-yard touchdown pass from Riply Luna to Kolby Luna to cut the deficit to 32-20 at halftime, but the visitors were held scoreless in the second half of a loss to the Bears in a state 2A quarterfinal game.

Riply Luna threw for 206 yards, running for another touchdown with 5:25 remaining in the first half for Kellogg. Kolby Luna had 133 yards receiving and Ramsey Rainio 133 yards on kickoff returns for Kellogg, which finished 6-4 in its first year after dropping from the 3A classification to 2A.

Neal threw for 244 yards and five touchdowns for Bear Lake (8-1), which faces either Declo or West Side in the semifinals next week.
