SHOOTING: Prayer isn’t enough

| May 29, 2022 1:00 AM

We can pray after the fact when such a mass killing happens. We can pray that such won’t happen again. But God doesn’t, as some worshipers believe, micromanage.

Religion tells us that He created our will, our intellect, and all the things our Gospels tell us in the theology of our history, the basis of our worship. But He hasn’t stopped the killing. He has left that to us.

Why cannot our legislators, our masterminds of civilized government, understand that? We must use our wisdom to figure out some ways to AT LEAST make it more difficult for evil persons to kill dozens at a time.

Gun “regulation” won’t take away our guns. No regulation could do that. The Second Amendment gives us guns. But the details are up to us. The amendment doesn’t do details. Why are the NRA and crazy constitutionalists so afraid to evaluate, create and administer some “details” within the amendment to provide some safety?

We can’t leave it to God. He gave that exclusively to us. In fact, He didn’t have anything to do with the Second Amendment. When the amendment was created, it could not have referred to weapons that did not exist at the time.

It could not have referred to the weapons of mass destruction which creative manufacturers have created for protection during warfare. There is no credible reason not to take warfare weapons from private citizenry, at least questionable members of the citizenry. We can easily make it more difficult, if not impossible, for evil to acquire weapons.

Satan is the personification of Evil. God, the personification of Good. We can’t let God fight Satan alone. I think He would accept our help.
