NIC: Demand strong leadership

The value and importance of the educational opportunities provided to our community by North Idaho College are legion. NIC provides important pathways for success, offering our high school students dual enrollment classes to jump-start their college educations, providing workforce training that enhances the ability of our young graduates to move into the many jobs our local businesses need them to fill, and offering enrichment courses to all of our citizens.

It is time for our community to unify behind the goal of maintaining and expanding the resources provided by North Idaho College. It is time for the NIC Board of Trustees to focus on correcting the many deficiencies noted in the findings reported by the Northwest Commission of Colleges and Universities.

The division and rancor between members of the NIC Board of Trustees is not only corrosive to the college’s ability to focus on its important educational goals, but also exacerbates the divisions we see among the members of our community.

We have lost many seasoned and respected administrators and educators who have helped grow NIC and enhanced its reputation for delivering quality education.

Each of us needs to recognize the important role NIC plays in our community and to demand that those in whom we have placed our trust, by electing them to the board, be accountable for their actions and inactions which continue to negatively impact North Idaho College.
