IDAHO: Confusion over values
|

A bill reached the Idaho Senate that would prohibit the State of Idaho from investing (idle tax revenue) in companies that make commitments to environmental, social, and corporate governance, known as "ESG." The effect of this law, if enacted, would favor investing in corporations that are doing little or nothing to reduce their carbon footprint, or improve social responsibility.
According to Sen. Steve Vick, the state should avoid investing in companies whose actions are "counter to the values of Idaho." Just what are those "values"? Ignoring environmental and social responsibilities are not my Idaho values, after having lived here for over 60 years.
