NEIGHBORHOOD OF THE WEEK: Take a swing for spring real estate

Worried about interest rates? Feeling deflated by inflation? Well, cheer up, buttercup, because it’s officially spring, and, you know, flowers bloom or whatever.

OK, so maybe don’t pretend everything is OK and opt for a little distraction. Rummage through the garage and bust out the clubs, because spring means golf. You can now center all of your rage on your crummy putting game.

Personally, I’m a terrible golfer, and I never play often enough to actually improve. I always thought that if I lived on/near a golf course, I’d play more and be one of those local semi-pros who could challenge inebriated ex-frat guys on the weekends and hustle them out of their sports card money. Anyway, I have four kids, and since I don’t want them to wear bike helmets while playing in their own backyard, my dream of living on a golf course must be on hold for a few years.

But you, dear Neighborhood of the Week reader, can live on a local course right now. There are so many options … oh wait, no, not really. The North Idaho market is still super tight.

Nevertheless, let’s take a look at the available options in and around the courses in Coeur d’Alene.

For the beginner players out there, consider the Ponderosa Springs Par 3 Course off French Gulch Road east of the main(ish) corridor of 15th Street in Coeur d’Alene. Nothing “on” the course is available right now, but a couple of options sit a short stroll away from the clubhouse.

If you don’t need much space, consider a three-bedroom home with just under a 1,000-square-foot home sitting on two lots (plus a shop) priced at $499,000, after a $26K price cut last week. Another option nearby: A four-bedroom, 1,350-square-foot rancher remodeled in 2018 is priced at $849,000.

Onto a full-size course — the 18-hole Coeur d’Alene Public Golf Course located just west of Ramsey Road and the Salvation Army Kroc Center. At the moment, we’ve got ONE listing on Fairway Drive, a four-bedroom, almost 2,000 square feet listed at just under $700,000. Next closest is south of the course (and just south of Interstate 90 near Seltice Way) with a five-bedroom home with 3,400 square feet listed at the same price, just under $700,000.

Now for the fancy (golf) pants out there — The Coeur Resort Golf Course, located directly on the shores of Lake Coeur d’Alene. We all know it’s great, but living close by will definitely cost you. Go big with those lottery winnings and splurge on a four-bedroom condo in The Terraces, a sprawling 6,000-plus-square-foot space with incredible lake and course views, plus boat slip at the nearby marina and golf membership. Price tag: $6.5 million.

Too much for you? Best I can do is some lots up the hill on Coeur d’Alene Lake Drive going for as little as $150,000, but, you know, you’ll need to build a house, or, at least, pitch a tent large enough to fit yourself and your bag of clubs.
