KENNEWICK, Wash. — Kyle Bridge’s two-out RBI single triggered a two-run eighth inning, and the Coeur d’Alene Vikings opened their season with a 12-10 victory over the Kennewick Lions on Saturday at Roy Johnson Field.

Andrew Karns, who finished 2 for 4 with three RBIs and two runs scored, followed with an RBI single for the Vikings, who led 10-4 before the Lions scored six runs in the bottom of the seventh, plating the tying run on a bases-loaded hit batsman.

“I liked how our team answered back to those two innings when Kennewick put the bat on the ball,” Coeur d’Alene coach Erik Karns said, also referring to the Vikings scoring four in the top of the sixth after the Lions had scored three times in the bottom of the fifth. “When you have such a good group of boys, they rally each other up. And it was just back to work (after Kennewick forced extra innings).”

Bryce Stockton went 2 for 5 and drove in four runs for Coeur d’Alene. He hit a two-run double in the fourth inning and a two-run single in the sixth. Andrew Karns had a two-run single in the fourth to snap a 1-all tie.

Kennewick (1-1), which committed nine errors, opened its season Friday with a 17-4 win over Post Falls.

Coeur d’Alene travels to Gonzaga Prep on Tuesday.
