| June 19, 2022 1:05 AM

ELLENSBURG, Wash. — Eric Bumbaugh tripled leading off the sixth inning, then scored the go-ahead run on an RBI single by Owen Benson as the Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen rallied past Moundtime of Hillsboro, Ore., 7-4 at the CWU Summer Series on Saturday.

Coeur d’Alene trailed 4-1 after three innings, but bounced back to tie it a 4-4, scoring three runs in the fifth inning to even the score. Joe DuCoeur had a sacrifice fly and Spencer Zeller an RBI single in the fifth.

“They’re a good team and have a couple of good pitchers,” Coeur d’Alene coach Darren Taylor said. “But our guys answered the bell, which was nice to see.”

AJ Currie struck out six in six innings and Cooper Erickson struck out two in the seventh for Coeur d’Alene against Moundtime.

“AJ was really good on the mound today and hit his spots really well,” Taylor said.

In the Lums’ second game of the day, Marcus Manzardo had three hits and five RBIs in a 15-4 win over the North Idaho Legends. Zeller, Bumbaugh and Ethan Taylor scored two runs each for the Lumbermen against the Legends. Jesse Brown allowed three hits in three innings for the Lumbermen.

“Marcus was really good early on, and everyone hit the ball really well,” Darren Taylor said. “Jesse really shut him down. The Legends are a solid team and really well coached.”

Coeur d’Alene (8-5), which won its pool, opens tournament play today at 8 a.m., with semifinals scheduled for 1 p.m. and the championship game at 6.
