PROPERTY VALUATIONS: Increase homeowner’s exemption

Like my neighbors, I was shocked at the recent property tax assessments issued by Kootenai County. What is of particular concern is that the homeowner’s exemption has not increased for years. The exemption is no longer indexed to account for inflation. This is causing financial insecurity for many Idahoans.

I propose increasing the homeowner’s exemption from $125,000 to $250,000 and, going forward, to increase the exemption based upon the consumer price index (CPI). I have written to my representatives and to Governor Little with this request and encourage others to do so.
