LEGION BASEBALL: Lums power past Expos

| June 9, 2022 1:15 AM

COEUR d’ALENE — Austin Taylor delivered a grand slam in an eight-run bottom of the sixth inning, powering the Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen past the Spokane Expos 2023 14-3 in the opener of a doubleheader at Thorco Field on Wednesday.

Ryan Schneider doubled and drove in three runs for Coeur d’Alene, which led 6-0 after two innings. Troy Shepard, who threw a no-hitter in last week’s home opener, struck out 10 and allowed three hits in the win for Coeur d’Alene.

In the nightcap, Schneider, who has signed with Division I Belmont of Nashville, Tenn., allowed two hits and struck out 11 as the Lumbermen won 11-0 in five innings.

“It was a good night for us,” Coeur d’Alene coach Darren Taylor said. “Our two studs (Troy and Ryan) threw great and we ran the bases really well. We’ve got a fast team and have seven or eight different guys that can fly around.”

Ethan Taylor had a two-run single for Coeur d’Alene, which drew 12 walks and finished with three hits in the nightcap.

Coeur d’Alene (6-2) returns to action on Monday with a doubleheader against visiting Missoula at noon.
