Jeanne Ann (Raymond) Tompkins, 93
Jeanne Ann (Raymond) Tompkins, 93 years young, departed May 18, 2022. She was born April 11, 1929, the second daughter of Marie Eleanor (Niebauer) Raymond and Walter Oscar Raymond in Stevens Point, Wis.
Jeanne was raised in the brick house on the northeast corner of Wisconsin and Plover where she attended St. Stephen’s Catholic School and graduated from Maria Catholic High School in 1947. Her father, a World War I veteran, and mother founded Raymond Electric Shop, which they later sold to Jim Clark, and which operated as Clark Electric Shop for many years. As a young lady, she visited Cuba with Donna Johnson. Jeanne worked for Hardware Mutual Insurance (now Sentry), in Grand Rapids, Mich., and Dallas, Texas, where Jeanne met the love of her life, H.A. (Huck) Tompkins, in the elevator. They married in Dallas, and in quick succession, John, Tom, Jim, Mike and Mary were born. They returned to the home office in Stevens Point, Wis., where the youngest, Ann was born. The family then moved to Mendham, N.J., Stevens Point, Wis., Edina, Minn., settling in Lakewood and then Englewood, Colo. until they retired in Waupaca, Wis. in 1987, where they again enjoyed family and friends at the Chain O'Lakes. Jeanne Ann worked at a sewing shop as she raised their children in Mendham, N.J., through the years she continued the work that she performed at Sentry in payroll at several other companies. She loved playing Bridge and cards and was taught by her parents. Playing Bridge with Huck on their relocations allowed them to make lifelong friends.
She is survived by her six children, John Raymond (Jane) of Arcadia, Fla., Thomas Andrew of Stevens Point, Wis., James Walter of Chandler, Ariz., Michael Lee (Jacqueline) of Grand Lake, Colo., Mary Ann Hynes (Thomas) of Thornton, Colo., and most importantly of all, the baby, Ann Margaret Smart (Brad) of Weldona, Colo.; 17 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.
Jeanne Ann lived without her husband for almost 34 years. She moved to Chandler, Ariz., and in 2013, moved to Idaho to her last residence and enjoyed all her friends and new family at The Lodge in Post Falls, Idaho, whom we are indebted to for the most amazing care and friendships they bestowed upon Jeanne Ann.
Jeanne Ann will be laid to rest aside her husband in Waupaca, Wis. on Oct. 4, 2022. Services at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church will begin with visitation at noon, services, lunch and burial at St Mary Magdalene Catholic Cemetery.
