George Peter Stachecki, 94

| July 13, 2022 1:00 AM

George Peter Stachecki passed June 25, 2022, at the age of 94. He was born at home on Feb. 10, 1928, to Thomas Michael and Anna (nee Bobowska) Stachecki in Detroit, Mich. He was the seventh child of eight. Polish was most often spoken in his home growing up. Family was very important to him. After attending grade school, he was taught to be a butcher by his brother-in-law, Julian Francois. As a result of losing his older brother, Hillard, at Peleliu, Dad enlisted in the Army and spent time in Japan after WWII had ended.

He met the love of his life, Patricia (nee Brinkman), at the counter of the Trading Post near her home at Grass Lake in Michigan. He sent her love notes every morning by special arrangement with the local postal carrier. They were engaged and married within the year (1950) and spent 71 years together. They raised four children — Kathleen, Thomas, George Jr. and Patricia (Trish).

In 1967, the family moved from Clawson, Mich., to Spokane, Wash. His dream was to open his own delicatessen. In 1972, he opened Angus Meats and Delicatessen. Over the years, he grew his business and today it is the only privately owned wholesale meat business in Spokane. In 2000, he retired and his son, Tom, continues the legacy, which celebrates 50 years in business this year.

From their lake cabin, they enjoyed their retirement. George is survived by daughter Kathleen and sons Thomas and George Jr., many grandkids and great-grandkids. He was preceded in death by parents Thomas and Anna, all of his siblings: Jean, Gladys, Baby, Hillard, Delores, Lorraine and Robert, spouse Patricia and daughter Trish.

A funeral mass will be said in his honor at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 625 E. Haycraft Ave., Coeur d’Alene, ID 83815 on Saturday, July 16, 2022, at 11 a.m., following a rosary at 10:30. Immediately after, a graveside service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery, Spokane, Wash. In lieu of flowers, you may wish to donate to the American Heart Association, Alzheimer’s Association or a charity that is near and dear to your heart.
