Doodle for Google voting opens today

Public voting for the Doodle for Google Student Contest opens at 10 this morning.

Incoming Post Falls High School sophomore Kaylin "Kyle" O'Halloran is the Idaho finalist. She is in the running to win a $30,000 college scholarship and a $50,000 tech package for her school.

All 54 state and territorial Doodle winners will be eligible for a chance to move forward to be one of five national finalists.

“I'm pretty nervous about it, but it's still a really cool experience,” Kaylin, 15, said Wednesday. "I’m excited to see what all the other people have entered, all the other state and territory winners. I’m sure they did pretty great too."

The contest prompted students from kindergarten through 12th grade to create artwork using "I care for myself by ..." as the theme. Kaylin won the state competition with her Photoshop design, titled "It's the Little Things," which shows her listening to music while walking her dog, Bella.

Her Doodle was selected out of thousands of entries. If it is selected as the overall winner, it will appear on the Google homepage for 24 hours.

"My dream is to work in animation, like in the movies or on a TV show," Kaylin said.

If she wins the scholarship, she said the California Institute for the Arts would be her top choice to attend after graduating from high school.

"I love all kinds of animation and storytelling through animation," she said.

Vote at doodles.google.com/d4g through July 12. A special URL code will be available to vote for Kaylin's particular artwork after the contest opens.
