Peggy (Hodge) Osterdock, 74

| January 29, 2022 1:00 AM

Peggy (Hodge) Osterdock was born in Chicago Heights, Ill., on Aug. 28, 1947, to Elma (Fowler) and Raleigh Cecil Hodge. Peggy passed away on Jan. 26, 2022, following a long battle with dementia, at the age of 74. She was surrounded by family including her husband of 56 years, Dennis Allan Osterdock.

Peggy’s early years were spent in Stockton, Calif. At the age of 15, Peggy met Dennis, and they were married two years later, on July 10, 1965. Their first daughter, Kelly, was born the following year. Shortly thereafter they moved to San Jose, where their second daughter, Tracy was born. The family then ventured to Fairbanks, Alaska, for what they expected to be a one-year stay … and they stayed for 23 years. While in Alaska, Peggy and Dennis joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and then had four more children: Liz, Becca, William and Matthew. In 1993 they decided they’d had enough of the cold and dark and they relocated the family to Hayden, Idaho.

Peggy loved swimming, horseback riding, cross-country skiing, kayaking, canoeing and operating our riverboat in the wilds of Alaska. If there was a body of water, she loved being on it. Her homemade pie crust was legendary, and she took home many awards for her famous peach pie including Grand Champion of the fair. She was a loving mother, an adoring grandmother to her 24 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed having her sister, Patsy, living nearby. Toward her later years, Peggy enjoyed four-wheeling with Dennis, long drives and anything that brought her closer to nature.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her brother, Perry, and her daughter, Kelly. She is survived by her children; Tracy Vanek of Beaverton, Ore., Liz Godbehere of Coeur d’Alene, Becca Yadon of Arlington, Wash., Will Osterdock of Post Falls and Matt Osterdock of Coeur d’Alene and copious amounts of grandchildren.

Peggy passed peacefully in the presence of loved ones at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at Hospice of Coeur d’Alene. She is finally free from a body that no longer worked well. We love you and miss you and look forward with hope and happiness to the day we are reunited as a family.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 29, 2022, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, (2293 W. Hanley Ave. Coeur d’Alene, ID 83815). A graveside service will follow at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens. Please visit Peggy’s online memorial and sign her guestbook at yatesfuneralhomes.com.
